About the mobile streams:

GIRL Mobile is available in multiple formats (MP3 and Windows Media) and in various download speeds (64Kpbs and 128Kbps). It's important to note that no matter which stream you select the quality of sound is virtually the same. All of our streams broadcast at 44KHz.

What is the difference between MP3 and Windows Media? Without getting too technical the difference is in the way the audio is encoded (captured) and then delivered to your player. Window Media Mobile player cannot listen to an MP3 stream. (The desktop player Window Media v10 does play MP3 streams.) Windows Media Mobile is only available on the Windows Mobile platform. In otherwords, there are several different operating systems for different types of phones therefore different players and stream formats are necessary so everyone can listen one way or the other.

What does 'KHz' mean? 'KHz' refers to the sample rate of the audio- that is, the number of times per second a slice of sound is captured. For voice 22050Hz (22KHz) is generally considered adequate for good quality speech and 44KHz is perfect for high fidelity music.

What's the difference between 64Kbps and 128Kbps? 'Kbps' refers to the speed of data being sent in seconds from us to you via your broadband connection. It's the download speed of the audio from our server to your phone. The only major difference between the two streams in the time in which it takes the audio to be delivered to your speakers. In other words if a DJ says something on the air like "Gay Internet Radio Live, America's Dance Channel", those listening to the 128k stream will hear it before those listening to the 64k stream.

Why offer the two speeds? Since we already have a 128k stream for our desktop listeners we also make it available to our mobile audience. It's been our experience that most broadband capable phones cannot stream a 128Kbps stream without frequent buffering. We strongly suggest using our 64Kbps stream for the most enjoyable experience. Other online gay stations only offer one stream to their listeners. A high bandwidth 128Kbps stream in MP3 format. It's unrealistic to think "one size fits all". It's important to us that we make available multiple speeds and multiple formats.

Ask your carrier what your download speed is for your wireless phone and select the feed that works best with your device.

 

Requirements:

In order to listen to GIRL Mobile you will need a "smart phone" with Internet access. . We suggest an unlimited data plan since audio streaming could become costly. Most carriers offer unlimited data as an add on feature to your voice calling plan at reasonable prices. We proudly recommendSprint PCS if you're looking for a mobile provider. Just like your desktop computer, you will need an audio player on your device. If you're device is Windows Mobile you're ready to start listening right away. Windows Media Mobile comes preloaded on Windows Mobile.

In a browser window on your Windows Mobile phone log on to http://www.GIRLRADIO.FM. This is the landing page for GIRL Mobile so you will want to add it to your favorites for easy access in the future. Select your stream and start dancing!

If your device is a Pocket PC, Treo, or other platform you will need a player capable of streaming MP3 audio. Keep in mind there are two formats of GIRL Mobile, MP3 and Windows Media. Chances are that if your operating system is not Windows based you will need to find a player for the MP3 stream.
